Seelio has added a few new features lately, like the ability to follow friends, help with on-boarding, and the ability to incorporate Vimeo into your projects. Pretty awesome, right? We thought so. After all this, curated galleries, our newest feature, is my favorite. Curated galleries are collections of work created around a single theme. As of now they can be curated by request to the Seelio team. Here’s why I’m so excited about it.
Groups (clubs, classes, etc.) can have their first official home
Now, all works of a specific group can be:
- Housed in one place
- Re-arranged to be in a specific order
- Accessed via a static URL
- Personalized by a cover photo and link to outside website
Group Members can now tag work with a tag that will track back to the group gallery (ex. MHacks2013 will go to the MHacks2013 gallery, MPowered will go to the gallery for the group MPowered, Photography will go Photography, etc.) and admins can arrange works in the order they choose. This might seem like a college apartment to the mansion we’re ultimately building around group functionality, but its a really awesome apartment!
This also gives new meaning to the tagging system, which people can use to both highlight their own skills as apart of their own profile, but also as a part of a group profile as well.
We Can Curate Galleries Around Topics.
Volunteer works, we’ve got that! Labor-of-Love-themed gallery for Valentines Day, we got that too (at least we will)! Now that we can curate galleries of works based around an interest or subject area, you can get the content you want in one place. We have curated these already for inspiration.
Community Building is Easier.
We have been saying for a while that we want to create more of a community on Seelio. Curated galleries are a chance for people to find people and work by certain interest, or to join a community that is already working on a certain topic (ex. tagging something ‘volunteering’ adds it to the gallery of people volunteering). We hope you will use these galleries to create community around a topic you love.
The Possibilities Are Endless.
As a techie, I love new features, but not just because they are new features. It’s more because each feature provides an opportunity to innovate, to break the feature, to use it for an unintended purpose, and give the product team new ideas! You have no idea how excited we are for this.
Check our our first archived galleries for MHacks and Startup Weekend Ann Arbor, and several other galleries too! If you want to create a gallery around a club or interest, send me an e-mail at email@example.com and we’ll set it up.
