Showcase your work. Get a phone interview with Facebook or…

Welcome back to school!

Believe it or not, this means the beginning of your job or internship search is just around the corner! Using your Seelio portfolio, you’ll be able to soon apply to hundreds of companies right on Seelio.

For those that cannot get enough social media, we are excited to announce that Facebook will be using Seelio to recruit college talent! We are happy to be working with them to help find great recruits. So, if you’ve been working on a cool web or mobile project this summer, make sure you add it to your portfolio now. (Check out Raj Vir’s Seelio as an example)

If Facebook likes what they see on your Seelio, you’ll get a phone interview!

We are rapidly adding more top-notch companies to Seelio. And you can help us get even more. Please take 30 seconds to let us know the top three companies you’d like to work at by completing this survey.

If your top companies are not on Seelio, we may be able to pitch your candidacy to these companies or get them onto Seelio for you.

Have a great start to the school year!

Have you Googled yourself lately?

Don’t forget: the internet never forgets. Links to your middle school MySpace account . . .  embarrassing videos . . . pictures from that crazy party last weekend . . . no wonder you didn’t get a call back from that recruiter!

Okay, for most students this scenario is a bit over-exaggerated, but the sentiment remains: anyone can and will Google search you, so be prepared to present yourself to employers. Take it from the pros – James A. Martin, columnist at CIO.com, claims, “it’s a given these days that an employer will Google any serious candidate and look at their first page of search results.”  What shows up on your first page of search results?

Don’t forget to think about what you aren’t posting. Not having an online presence presents an impediment to your job search, too.  Amy Levin-Epstein, CBS MoneyWatch columnist, explains why: “if an employer can’t find you online, you’re a virtual non-entity. It’s like you don’t even exist!” Your name on a research paper, a detailed record of your volunteer work, articles you’ve published — all great things that you should make sure potential employers have access to! But how can you make all of these things (and many more) available in a user-friendly, organized way?

Creating a Seelio is the best way to showcase yourself to employers, who will Google you. Seelio provides a space for you to present your work to the world. Make a Seelio and build your online presence in the process — potential employers will Google you, so make sure they see the best of you!

The times they are a-changin’

Welcome to the super-crazed, super-connected digital age. Recruiting today isn’t like it used to be.

In the past, crafting a strong resume was key to being hired. But recent technology has changed the way things work around here. Now, resumes are read by automated software, and actually being noticed by the system is problematic for many applicants. Further, when a human actually picks up a resume, how can an applicant stand out from all the others in a colorless page or two?

According to an article in the Huffington Post by Diane Gayeski, Ph.D., Dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, students must show employers that they possess skills characteristic of successful employees, such as “teamwork, critical thinking, reasoning, clear writing and speaking, and problem-solving. . . But how do new grads DEMONSTRATE those competencies, and how do they get a foot in the door in this competitive global environment?”

At Seelio, we’ve taken a cue from a recent trend. Applicants have found that multimedia tools — QR codes, videos, infographics — supplement their resumes nicely in conveying, “this is who I am, this is what I’ve done, and this is what I can do for you.” But why not kick the power of the resume-multimedia tools duo up a notch?

Seelio provides a space for college students to present their stories to employers — and their peers. By creating an online portfolio of works, students give others a sense of who they are, what they’re passionate about, and what they’re like to work with. As an additional benefit, students can bring their resumes to life by adding the link to their seelio on their resumes. So make a Seelio, show the world who you are, and win.
